Quick answer
iOS 27 beta 1 (build 24A5355q) was released on 8 June 2026, right after the WWDC keynote. It had the problems first betas usually have: battery drain, warm phones, crashing third-party apps and flaky Bluetooth. It has been replaced many times since. Move to iOS 27.0.1 for stability, or to iOS 27.2 beta 4 to keep testing.
What was iOS 27 beta 1?
iOS 27 developer beta 1 was the first build of iOS 27 that Apple released to testers. It shipped as build 24A5355q on 8 June 2026, the same day Apple announced iOS 27 at the WWDC 2026 keynote. Like every first beta, it was aimed at developers who needed to test their apps against the new system. It was never meant for an iPhone you depend on every day.
This page was written before that release and listed the kinds of bugs a first beta tends to bring. That list is now a historical record. The useful parts for you today are how to tell which build you are on, how to move off beta 1, and the fixes for the problems that still turn up after any big iOS update.
Should you still be running beta 1?
No. Apple has shipped fourteen newer iOS 27 builds since beta 1, including the final release. If Settings › General › About still shows 24A5355q, your iPhone is running the least polished build of the whole cycle.
| Build | Version | Released |
|---|---|---|
| 24A5355q | iOS 27.0 beta 1 | 8 June 2026 |
| 24A5370h | iOS 27.0 beta 2 | 22 June 2026 |
| 24A5380h | iOS 27.0 beta 3 | 6 July 2026 |
| 24A5390f | iOS 27.0 beta 4 | 20 July 2026 |
| 24A5408d | iOS 27.0 beta 5 | 10 August 2026 |
| 24A5418b | iOS 27.0 beta 6 | 17 August 2026 |
| 24A5424a | iOS 27.0 beta 7 | 24 August 2026 |
| 24A5430a | iOS 27.0 beta 8 | 31 August 2026 |
| 24A435 | iOS 27.0 RC | 9 September 2026 |
| 24A437 | iOS 27.0 | 14 September 2026 |
| 24B5084k | iOS 27.2 beta 1 | 16 September 2026 |
| 24B5089g | iOS 27.2 beta 2 | 21 September 2026 |
| 24A446 | iOS 27.0.1 | 28 September 2026 |
| 24B5099f | iOS 27.2 beta 3 | 5 October 2026 |
| 24B5110a | iOS 27.2 beta 4 | 13 October 2026 |
You have two sensible destinations. iOS 27.0.1 is the current public release and the right choice if you just want a phone that works. iOS 27.2 beta 4 is the newest beta, for people who want to keep testing what comes next.
How to update from beta 1 to a newer build
You can update straight from beta 1 over the air, with no computer and no erase. Back up first, as you would before any update.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and plug in your iPhone.
- Open
Settings › General › Software Update. - Tap
Beta Updates. - Choose Off to head for the public release, or keep iOS 27 Developer Beta or iOS 27 Public Beta to stay on the beta track.
- Go back to Software Update and install the build that appears.
With Beta Updates turned off, your iPhone keeps the build it has until a public release with a higher version number appears. iOS 27.0.1 is higher than any iOS 27.0 beta, so it should be offered right away. Our guide to leaving the iOS 27 beta without losing data covers this route in more detail.
Where to find Apple's official list of known issues
Apple publishes release notes for each developer beta on developer.apple.com. Each set of notes has a known issues section, and many entries come with a workaround. That is the only bug list Apple confirms. Forum threads and social posts help you spot patterns, but they often trace back to a single app, accessory or carrier.
For a running list of problems on current builds and the fixes people use, see our iOS 27 bugs and known issues page.
Common beta 1 problems and how to fix them
Before beta 1 came out, this page flagged the problem areas that show up in most first betas. The fixes below are standard iOS steps. They are worth trying on any iOS 27 build, not only beta 1.
Battery drain and a warm iPhone
Heavy battery use in the first few days is usually background work rather than a bug. After a major update the iPhone indexes Photos, rebuilds Spotlight and syncs iCloud. On models that support Apple Intelligence it may also download on-device models. Leave it on Wi-Fi and a charger overnight for a night or two.
If drain continues after that, open Settings › Battery and look for one app using far more than it should. Turning off Settings › General › Background App Refresh for apps that do not need it also helps. Our battery tips for the iOS 27 beta go through the rest.
Banking, authenticator and VPN apps that crash or will not open
Apps with strict security checks are the most likely to break on an early beta. That includes banking apps, two-factor authenticators, VPN clients and work apps managed by an employer. They may close on launch or report an unsupported system.
- Do not delete the app. You may lose saved logins or authenticator secrets.
- Update it from the App Store, since developers ship fixes for new iOS versions.
- Use the bank's website in Safari in the meantime.
- For wrong two-factor codes, check that
Settings › General › Date & Time › Set Automaticallyis on, because clock drift breaks time-based codes. - Keep backup codes for important accounts somewhere you can reach without the phone.
Bluetooth, AirPods and CarPlay dropping out
Toggle Bluetooth off and on first. If AirPods keep disconnecting, open Settings › Bluetooth, tap the info button next to them, choose Forget This Device and pair them again. For CarPlay, go to Settings › General › CarPlay, pick your car, choose Forget This Car and set it up again. If none of that holds, reset network settings at Settings › General › Transfer or Reset iPhone › Reset › Reset Network Settings. That erases saved Wi-Fi passwords but no personal data. Our Bluetooth troubleshooting guide covers accessory-specific cases.
Wi-Fi, Personal Hotspot and cellular glitches
Forget the Wi-Fi network and join it again. If devices keep dropping off your Personal Hotspot, turn on Maximize Compatibility in Settings › Personal Hotspot. If the status bar shows LTE where you normally get 5G, toggle Airplane Mode and check Settings › Cellular › Voice & Data. A network settings reset clears most stubborn connection problems.
Notifications arriving late
Toggle Airplane Mode on and off, then turn notifications off and back on for the affected app. If messages still arrive only when you open the app, sign out of your Apple Account and sign back in from the top of the Settings app.
Liquid Glass visual glitches and stutter
Flicker, hard-to-read text over busy wallpapers and choppy animations are mostly cosmetic. Turning on Settings › Accessibility › Motion › Reduce Motion and Settings › Accessibility › Display & Text Size › Reduce Transparency reduces the effects and the work behind them. That is worth doing on the oldest supported models, such as the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation). If an app icon shows a blank placeholder, restart the iPhone.
Apple Intelligence not working
Apple Intelligence on iPhone needs an A17 Pro chip or newer, so it runs on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and later models. It does not run on iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus. On a supported phone, a "preparing" message after the update means the models are still downloading. Keep the phone on Wi-Fi and power. If features such as Writing Tools or Genmoji keep failing, restart the iPhone and try shorter requests.
Stuck on the Apple logo
Force restart first: press and release Volume Up, press and release Volume Down, then hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears. If the phone still loops, connect it to a Mac or PC, put it in recovery mode and choose Update rather than Restore. Update reinstalls iOS without erasing your data. Our guide to an iPhone stuck on the Apple logo walks through each step.
Quick fix table
| Problem | Try first | If that fails |
|---|---|---|
| Fast battery drain | Wait two nights on Wi-Fi and power | Check Settings › Battery, limit Background App Refresh |
| App crashes on launch | Update the app, restart the iPhone | Use the web version until the developer ships a fix |
| AirPods or CarPlay drop out | Toggle Bluetooth | Forget and re-pair, then reset network settings |
| Slow or dropping Wi-Fi | Forget and rejoin the network | Reset network settings |
| Late notifications | Toggle Airplane Mode | Sign out of your Apple Account and back in |
| Choppy animations | Turn on Reduce Motion | Turn on Reduce Transparency |
| Boot loop | Force restart | Recovery mode, then Update |
How to report a bug to Apple
Use the Feedback Assistant app, which comes with every iOS beta. Tap the compose button, pick the area that is misbehaving and describe the problem. The reports that get acted on include:
- your iPhone model and the build number from
Settings › General › About - numbered steps that reproduce the problem
- what you expected and what happened instead
- a screen recording, if the bug is visual
You can also file reports on the web at feedbackassistant.apple.com. Our guide to reporting bugs in the iOS 27 beta explains how to capture diagnostics.
How to go back to iOS 26 instead
If you would rather leave iOS 27 altogether, Apple is currently signing iOS 26.6.1 RC (23G82) for iPhone. A downgrade needs a Mac with Finder or a Windows PC with the Apple Devices app, and it erases the iPhone. Afterwards you restore the backup you made on iOS 26 before installing the beta, because a backup made on an iOS 27 beta will not restore onto iOS 26. The full steps, with download links, are in our iOS 27 beta to iOS 26 downgrade guide.
What to do next
Check your build in Settings › General › About. If it starts with 24A53 or 24A54, you are on an old iOS 27.0 beta. Update to iOS 27.0.1, or stay on the beta track and install iOS 27.2 beta 4. Then use the fixes above for anything that still misbehaves.
Frequently asked questions
What build number was iOS 27 beta 1?
iOS 27 developer beta 1 was build 24A5355q, released on 8 June 2026, the same day Apple announced iOS 27 at the WWDC 2026 keynote. It was followed by seven more iOS 27.0 betas, a release candidate (24A435) on 9 September and the public iOS 27.0 release (24A437) on 14 September 2026. You can confirm the build on your own iPhone in Settings › General › About.
Is iOS 27 beta 1 still worth installing?
No. Beta 1 is the earliest and least finished build of the cycle, and every later build has replaced it. If you want a stable system, install iOS 27.0.1 (24A446), the current public release. If you want to keep testing, the current beta is iOS 27.2 beta 4 (24B5110a), released on 13 October 2026. There is no reason to stay on beta 1 today.
How do I get off iOS 27 beta 1 without erasing my iPhone?
Open Settings › General › Software Update and install whatever is offered. To leave the beta program entirely, set Beta Updates to Off. Your iPhone keeps its current build and moves to the next public release with a higher version number, which today is iOS 27.0.1. That route keeps your apps and data. Only a downgrade to iOS 26 requires a restore from a computer.
Where does Apple list the official known issues for each iOS 27 beta?
Apple publishes release notes for every developer beta on developer.apple.com. Each entry lists new features, resolved issues and known issues, often with a suggested workaround. Those notes are the only official bug list. Reports on forums and social media are useful for spotting patterns, but they are not confirmed by Apple and can depend on a single device or app.
Why did my battery drain so fast after installing the beta?
After any major update, the iPhone spends time on background work: indexing Photos, rebuilding Spotlight and syncing iCloud. On Apple Intelligence models it may also download on-device model files. That work uses power and can make the phone warm. Give it a couple of days on Wi-Fi and a charger. If drain continues after that, check Settings › Battery to see which app is responsible.
Can I restore an iOS 27 beta backup onto iOS 26?
No. A backup made while running an iOS 27 beta cannot be restored onto an older iOS version. If you downgrade to iOS 26.6.1 RC, the build Apple is currently signing, you need a backup made on iOS 26 before you installed the beta. Without one, you can set the iPhone up as new and rely on iCloud for photos, contacts and other synced data.
