Quick answer
To report a bug in the iOS 27 beta, open the Feedback Assistant app that installs with beta software, sign in with your Apple Account and tap the compose button. Choose iOS & iPadOS, pick the affected area, write a specific title and numbered steps to reproduce the problem, attach a screen recording or sysdiagnose, then tap Submit.
Why your bug reports matter
Beta testers find problems Apple's own testing misses. Apple's engineers cannot recreate every combination of apps, accessories, carriers, languages and accessibility settings that real people use, so the beta exists partly to surface those cases. The iOS 27.2 betas are still being seeded (beta 4, build 24B5110a, arrived on 13 October 2026), which means reports filed now can still shape the public release.
- Scale: when many people report the same issue, it tells Apple the problem is widespread.
- Reproduction: your device details and logs help an engineer recreate the bug, which is the first step to fixing it.
- Edge cases: unusual settings or app combinations may only show up on your iPhone.
- Feature feedback: suggestions about how new features behave in daily use are welcome too.
What is Feedback Assistant?
Feedback Assistant is Apple's official bug-reporting app. It is not on the App Store; it installs automatically when you install iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS or tvOS beta software. There is also a web version at feedbackassistant.apple.com, handy for filing a report from a computer.
Sending feedback this way beats posting on a forum or emailing support because the app does several things for you:
- Attaches your device model, iOS version and build number.
- Collects relevant system logs and crash data with your permission.
- Routes the report to the team that owns the feature you picked.
- Shows the status of each report and lets Apple ask you follow-up questions.
Where to find it
- Look on your Home Screen for the purple Feedback app.
- Swipe down on the Home Screen and search "Feedback" in Spotlight.
- Swipe left past your last Home Screen page and check the App Library.
If it isn't installed, you are probably not on a beta. Our guide on how to download the iOS 27 beta covers joining the program.
How to submit a bug report
- Open Feedback Assistant and sign in with the Apple Account you used to enroll in the beta. You stay signed in for future reports.
- Tap the compose button to start new feedback.
- Choose the platform: iOS & iPadOS for iPhone and iPad problems.
- Pick the area the problem affects, such as Camera, Bluetooth, Messages, Photos or Apple Intelligence. The right area sends the report to the right team.
- Describe the type of problem, for example unexpected behaviour, a crash, slowness or a suggestion.
- Write a specific title and a description with reproduction steps (the next section shows how).
- Attach evidence: a screenshot, a screen recording, a sysdiagnose, or the file or photo involved.
- Review the report and tap Submit.
The app uploads the report and any diagnostics, then lists it under your submissions so you can check on it later.
What to report
If something does not work the way it should, report it. Minor glitches can be symptoms of a bigger problem.
- App or system crashes and freezes
- Unusual battery drain or overheating
- Visual glitches, layout problems or animation stutter
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular or CarPlay problems
- Slowdowns and lag
- Third-party apps that break on the beta
- Accessibility problems with VoiceOver, display settings or motor features
- Suggestions for new features or changes to existing ones
Before filing, check our iOS 27 bugs and known issues page. If a workaround is listed there, mention whether it worked for you.
How to write a bug report Apple can act on
Write it so an engineer who has never seen your iPhone can make the bug happen on theirs. Reports that do that get fixed faster than vague complaints.
A template that works
Title: what goes wrong, where, and when
Steps to reproduce: 1. first action 2. second action 3. third action
Expected result: what should have happened
Actual result: what happened instead
Frequency: always, sometimes (for example 3 out of 10 tries), or once
Notes: accessories, settings or workarounds that matter
Write a specific title
| Vague | Useful |
|---|---|
| Camera broken | Camera app crashes when switching to Portrait with flash on |
| Battery problem | Battery drains quickly with the screen off since installing iOS 27.2 beta 4 |
| Messages bug | Message effects don't play when received in group conversations |
Give exact reproduction steps
Number every action, name the exact screens and menus, and start with any preconditions. "Only on Wi-Fi", "only with Low Power Mode on" or "only after a restart" can be the detail that makes the bug reproducible. For example: open Settings › Display & Brightness, switch to Dark, open Control Center, drag the brightness slider, and describe the glitch you see.
Checklist before you tap Submit
- The title names the feature and the failure.
- Steps are numbered and complete.
- Expected and actual results are both stated.
- Frequency is noted.
- A screenshot or recording is attached for anything visual.
- A sysdiagnose was captured soon after the problem, for crashes, slowdowns and battery issues.
- The correct area is selected.
- Any workaround you found is mentioned.
How to capture a sysdiagnose
A sysdiagnose is a full diagnostic snapshot: crash logs, battery data, network details and system state. For crashes, slowdowns and battery drain it is often the most useful thing you can attach. Capture it right after the problem happens, because the relevant logs can be overwritten if you wait.
- Press and hold Volume Up, Volume Down and the Side button together for about one to one and a half seconds.
- Let go when you feel a short vibration. Nothing else appears on screen.
- Wait a few minutes while the file is generated.
- Open
Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements › Analytics Data. - Find the newest file whose name starts with
sysdiagnose_. - Tap it, use the Share button and add it to your feedback.
If no file appears after ten minutes or so, try the button press again; a press that is too short or not quite simultaneous will not trigger it.
Screenshots and screen recordings
A screenshot shows a layout bug in a second; a screen recording shows anything that involves timing, animation or several steps.
- Include the status bar if the problem involves signal, battery or the time.
- Use Markup to circle the area that's wrong.
- Capture each step if the bug unfolds over several screens.
- For recordings, use the Screen Recording control in Control Center, then demonstrate the bug from the start.
- Long-press the Screen Recording control to turn on the microphone and narrate what you are doing.

Tracking your feedback
Every report you send is listed in Feedback Assistant with its status. You may see a report stay open for a while, move to under investigation, be marked as resolved, or be closed as a duplicate of an existing report. A duplicate is not a rejection: it adds weight to the original. If the app shows a request for more information, answer it quickly, because a report waiting on you is a report nobody can work on.
Do not expect a personal reply to every report. The absence of a response does not mean your report was ignored.
Tips for better feedback
- Report straight away. Logs are freshest right after the problem.
- One bug per report. Bundling issues makes each one harder to track and fix.
- Retest on each new beta. If a bug survives an update, file a new report on the new build and mention the original.
- Include workarounds. They help engineers understand the scope.
- Use precise terms. "The Photos app quits when I open the Recently Deleted album" beats "Photos is broken".
- Stay factual. Real people read these reports, and calm, specific detail is easier to act on than frustration.
Some problems are worth working around while you wait for a fix. If your iPhone freezes completely, see how to force restart an iPhone; for battery drain, our iOS 27 beta battery tips can help.
What to do next
Next time something breaks, open Feedback Assistant before you restart or move on, and capture a sysdiagnose while the logs are still fresh. If the beta is causing more trouble than it is worth, our guide to leaving the iOS 27 beta without losing data explains your options.
Frequently asked questions
How do I report a bug in the iOS 27 beta?
Open the Feedback Assistant app, which is installed with beta software, and sign in with the Apple Account you used to enroll. Tap the compose button, choose iOS & iPadOS, pick the area that has the problem, then write a specific title, numbered steps to reproduce it, and what you expected versus what happened. Attach a screen recording or sysdiagnose if you can, and submit.
What is Feedback Assistant?
Feedback Assistant is Apple's official channel for bug reports and suggestions from beta testers. It is installed automatically with iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS beta software, and it also has a web version at feedbackassistant.apple.com. It attaches device details and diagnostic logs to your report, routes it to the relevant team and lets you follow its status.
Does Apple actually read beta feedback?
Reports are logged and reviewed, but Apple does not reply to most of them individually because of the volume it receives. Clear reports with reliable reproduction steps and diagnostics are the ones engineers can act on fastest. Silence in the app does not mean nobody looked; you may simply see the status change, or a request for more information, rather than a personal reply.
How do I capture a sysdiagnose on iPhone?
Right after the problem happens, press and hold Volume Up, Volume Down and the Side button together for about one to one and a half seconds, until you feel a short vibration. Wait a few minutes while it builds, then find the file starting with sysdiagnose_ in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements › Analytics Data and share it to your report.
Why can't I find the Feedback Assistant app?
Check that the iPhone is actually running a beta in Settings › General › About. Then search for "Feedback" in Spotlight and look in the App Library, since the icon may not be on your Home Screen. If you are on a public release, the app is not installed; you can still send feedback from feedbackassistant.apple.com in a browser.
Should I report a bug that someone else has probably reported?
Yes. Apple uses the number of reports to judge how widespread a problem is, and your report may include the device, settings or logs that finally let an engineer reproduce it. If Apple has already logged the issue, your report can be linked to the existing one. Only skip it if you have already filed the same bug yourself on the same build.
