Quick answer
Most iOS 27 bugs fall into a handful of groups: battery drain and heat after updating, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drops, third-party apps crashing, and Apple Intelligence not appearing. The fix is usually to update to the newest build, restart, and wait a day or two for indexing to finish. The specific steps for each problem are below.
First, check which iOS 27 build you are on
Many bugs disappear simply by moving to a newer build, so start by checking yours in Settings › General › About.
| Build | What it is | Released | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
24A446 | iOS 27.0.1, current public release | 28 September 2026 | Your main iPhone |
24A437 | iOS 27.0, first public release | 14 September 2026 | Update to 27.0.1 |
24B5110a | iOS 27.2 beta 4, newest beta | 13 October 2026 | Testing on a spare device |
24A5355q to 24A5430a | iOS 27.0 betas 1 to 8 | June to August 2026 | Update now |
If you are on an old summer beta, update before you troubleshoot anything else. Open Settings › General › Software Update and install what is offered.
Quick fixes that solve most iOS 27 problems
Run through these in order before you try anything specific. They take a few minutes and clear a surprising number of issues.
- Install the latest update in
Settings › General › Software Update. - Restart the iPhone. If it is frozen, force restart it: press volume up, press volume down, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
- Update your apps in the App Store.
- Free up storage in
Settings › General › iPhone Storage. Updates and indexing need room to work. - Leave the iPhone on Wi-Fi and a charger overnight so background indexing can finish.
Battery drain and overheating
Battery drain and a warm iPhone in the first days after updating are the most common iOS 27 complaints, and usually the least serious. iOS 27 rebuilds its search index across Spotlight, Photos, Mail and Messages, and supported iPhones may also download Apple Intelligence models. Beta builds add extra diagnostic logging on top.
- Give it 48 hours on Wi-Fi and a charger before judging battery life.
- Open
Settings › Batteryand look for one app using far more than the others. - Limit background activity in
Settings › General › Background App Refreshfor apps that do not need it. - Review
Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Servicesand set rarely used apps to Never or While Using. - Turn on Low Power Mode on heavy days.
- If the iPhone gets hot while charging, take it out of its case and stop using it until it cools.
If drain is still bad after a few days, check battery condition in the Battery Health section of Settings › Battery. Our list of battery tips for the iOS 27 beta goes further.
Wi-Fi and cellular problems
Wi-Fi that drops, refuses to join a known network, or shows connected with no internet is usually fixed by forgetting and rejoining the network.
- Toggle Wi-Fi off and on in Control Center or Settings.
- Turn Airplane Mode on for 30 seconds, then off.
- Open
Settings › Wi-Fi, tap the info button next to the network, choose Forget This Network and rejoin. - Restart the iPhone and the router.
- For that network, turn off Private Wi-Fi Address and test again.
- As a last step, use
Settings › General › Transfer or Reset iPhone › Reset › Reset Network Settings. This removes saved Wi-Fi passwords and VPN settings.
For no cellular service, toggle Airplane Mode, check Settings › General › About for a carrier settings prompt, and remove and reinsert a physical SIM. The full walkthrough is in our Wi-Fi not working guide.
Bluetooth and AirPods disconnecting
Forgetting and re-pairing the accessory fixes most Bluetooth problems after an update.
- Toggle Bluetooth off and on.
- In
Settings › Bluetooth, tap the info button next to the device and choose Forget This Device. - Restart the iPhone and the accessory, then pair again.
- For AirPods, put them in the case, open the lid and hold the setup button for about 15 seconds until the light flashes amber, then pair again.
- Check that the accessory's own firmware is up to date.
More steps, including car systems, are in our Bluetooth not connecting guide.
Apps crashing or freezing
Third-party apps crashing on launch is the classic beta problem. Banking apps, streaming apps with strict copy protection and anything that uses the camera at a low level tend to break first, because developers need time to update for a new system.
- Update the app in the App Store.
- Force-close it by swiping up from the bottom of the screen and swiping its card away, then reopen it.
- Offload and reinstall it:
Settings › General › iPhone Storage, pick the app, tap Offload App, then Reinstall App. - If it is critical, use the service's website in Safari until a fix arrives.
- Report it to the developer and to Apple.
If the whole iPhone freezes, force restart it. To see which app is crashing, look in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements › Analytics Data. If freezes keep happening, try Settings › General › Transfer or Reset iPhone › Reset › Reset All Settings, which resets settings but keeps your data.
Apple Intelligence or Siri not working
When Apple Intelligence or the new Siri AI does not appear, the cause is usually the device, not a bug.
- Confirm your iPhone has an A17 Pro chip or newer: iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, any iPhone 16 or iPhone 17 model (including 16e and 17e), iPhone Air, or iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus do not get Apple Intelligence.
- Open
Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siriand make sure it is turned on. - Stay on Wi-Fi with free storage while the on-device models download.
- Check
Settings › General › Language & Regionand the Siri language, since supported languages vary. - Restart the iPhone and check again.
If Siri does not respond at all, check that it is switched on in Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri, that nothing is covering the microphones, and that you have an internet connection. Our guide on how to enable Apple Intelligence covers setup in detail.
Camera, Photos and display issues
Camera and Photos problems after an update are often temporary, because Photos re-processes your library in the background.
- Camera opens to a black screen: force-close Camera, restart the iPhone, and make sure you have free storage.
- Photos slow or thumbnails missing: leave the iPhone on Wi-Fi and a charger overnight, then check iCloud sync status in the Photos section of iCloud settings.
- Screen dim or auto-brightness odd: toggle Auto-Brightness in
Settings › Accessibility › Display & Text Size, and check True Tone and Night Shift inSettings › Display & Brightness. - Touch not registering: clean the screen, remove the screen protector to test, and force restart. If it persists across restarts, contact Apple Support, as it may be hardware.
Face ID, notifications and storage
- Face ID failing: clean the front sensors, then go to
Settings › Face ID & Passcode, choose Reset Face ID and set it up again in good light. - Notifications missing: check the app in
Settings › Notificationsand make sure a Focus inSettings › Focusis not silencing it. - Storage filling up: restart to clear temporary files, then review
Settings › General › iPhone Storageand offload large apps you rarely use.
If an update gets stuck
A beta install can sit on the Apple logo much longer than a normal update. Wait before acting. If nothing has moved for a long time, force restart once; if that does not help, use recovery mode from a computer and choose Update before Restore. The full procedure is in our guide to an iPhone stuck on the Apple logo.
When to downgrade instead
If a bug makes your iPhone unusable and the fixes above do not help, you have two ways out.
| Option | What happens | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Turn off Beta Updates | Keeps the current build, then moves to the next public release with a higher version number | Kept |
Restore iOS 26.6.1 RC (23G82) | Full restore from a Mac or PC with Finder or the Apple Devices app | Erased; restore a backup made on iOS 26 |
A backup made on iOS 27 cannot be restored onto iOS 26. Our iOS 27 to iOS 26 downgrade guide walks through the restore.
What to do next
When you find a bug that survives a restart and an update, report it with the Feedback app so Apple can fix it in a later build. Our guide to reporting iOS 27 beta bugs shows what to include.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my iPhone battery draining fast after updating to iOS 27?
Usually because of background work after the update. iOS 27 re-indexes your library for its rebuilt search, Photos re-processes your library, and Apple Intelligence models may download. Keep the iPhone on Wi-Fi and a charger for a day or two. If drain continues, open Settings › Battery to find the app responsible and limit its Background App Refresh.
How do I fix Wi-Fi not working on iOS 27?
Toggle Wi-Fi off and on, then forget the network and rejoin it. Restart the iPhone and the router. If it still fails, turn off Private Wi-Fi Address for that network, then try Settings › General › Transfer or Reset iPhone › Reset › Reset Network Settings. That last step erases saved Wi-Fi passwords, so have them to hand.
Why do apps keep crashing on iOS 27?
Most crashes after a major update come from apps that have not been updated for the new system, which is especially common on betas. Update everything in the App Store, force-close and reopen the app, then offload and reinstall it from Settings › General › iPhone Storage. If one app keeps failing, use its website for now and report it to the developer.
Why is Apple Intelligence missing after I installed iOS 27?
First check the hardware. Apple Intelligence needs an A17 Pro chip or newer, so the iPhone 15, 15 Plus and every older model do not get it. On a supported iPhone, open Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri, turn it on, and stay on Wi-Fi with free storage while the models download. Device and Siri language settings can also limit what appears.
Should I downgrade from the iOS 27 beta because of bugs?
Try the fixes first, then decide. If the problem is serious and you have a backup made on iOS 26, you can restore iOS 26.6.1 RC (23G82), which Apple is currently signing for iPhone, from a Mac or PC. If you only want to stop getting betas, set Beta Updates to Off and wait for the next public release instead.
Where can I see Apple's official list of iOS 27 bugs?
Apple publishes release notes for each developer beta on developer.apple.com, with known issues and suggested workarounds. That is the only official list. Forum and social media reports help you spot patterns, but they often depend on one device, one carrier or one app, so test before assuming a bug affects you.
Is iOS 27.0.1 more stable than the iOS 27 beta?
Generally, yes. iOS 27.0.1 (24A446) is a public release that has been through eight betas, a release candidate and a bug-fix update. The iOS 27.2 betas carry newer, less tested code. If your iPhone is your main phone and you rely on banking, work or car apps, the public release is the safer choice.
