iOS 27 Beta

How to Check If Your iPhone Supports iOS 27

Every iPhone from the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation) onward supports iOS 27. Find your model in Settings and match it to the full list.

Quick answer

Your iPhone supports iOS 27 if it is an iPhone 11 or later, or an iPhone SE (2nd or 3rd generation). To check, open Settings › General › About and read the Model Name. Every iPhone that ran iOS 26 gets iOS 27. Apple Intelligence is a separate question: it needs an A17 Pro chip or newer, starting with the iPhone 15 Pro.

How to find your iPhone model

The About screen in Settings tells you exactly which iPhone you have, and it takes a few seconds.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General › About.
  3. Read the Model Name line, for example iPhone 13 mini or iPhone 15 Pro.
  4. If you need more detail, tap Model Number. It switches from a part number to an A-number, such as A followed by four digits.

The same screen shows your current iOS version, so you can see at a glance whether you are on iOS 26 or already on iOS 27.

The Software Update shortcut

You can also check in Settings › General › Software Update. On a supported iPhone still running iOS 26, the screen offers an upgrade to iOS 27, currently iOS 27.0.1 (build 24A446). If it only ever offers smaller updates and you have plenty of storage, your model is probably not on the list. Confirm with the table below.

For model-specific detail, we have dedicated pages on iOS 27 on the iPhone 11, the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 15. Firmware for every model, with signing status, is in our IPSW download library.

Which iPhones don't support iOS 27?

The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and every older iPhone. These models did not get iOS 26 either, so they stop at iOS 18. They keep working, and their apps keep running until developers raise their minimum iOS version.

If you had read earlier predictions, this may be a surprise. Before WWDC 2026, leak reports said iOS 27 would drop the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation), and this page repeated that in May. Apple's actual list kept them. If your phone is one of the unsupported models, our guide to what happens when Apple stops supporting an iPhone explains what changes over time.

Does your iPhone get Apple Intelligence?

Supporting iOS 27 and supporting Apple Intelligence are two different lines. Apple Intelligence needs an A17 Pro chip or newer, so the split looks like this:

  • iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, every iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 model, the iPhone Air, and the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. That is 14 models.
  • iOS 27 without Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, the iPhone 14, 13, 12 and 11 series, and both iPhone SE models. That is 19 models.

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus catch people out most often. They share a name with the Pro models but use the A16 chip, which falls below the line. On the phones without it, Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji, Clean Up and notification summaries do not appear. The rest of iOS 27 does. For the regional and language side of availability, see our page on Apple Intelligence devices and regions.

What to do once you know your iPhone is supported

There are three routes, depending on how much risk you want to take.

OptionBuild todayHow
Public releaseiOS 27.0.1 (24A446)Settings › General › Software Update
BetaiOS 27.2 beta 4 (24B5110a)Settings › General › Software Update › Beta Updates
Stay on iOS 26 for nowiOS 26.6.1 RC (23G82) is still signedLeave updates for later

Whichever you choose, back up first. If you try the beta, archive a computer backup, because a backup made on the beta cannot be restored onto an older iOS version. The beta is free with any Apple Account, and no configuration profile is involved.

What if iOS 27 doesn't show up?

If your model is on the list but Software Update does not offer iOS 27, work through these checks:

  • Storage: look at Settings › General › iPhone Storage and free space if it is nearly full.
  • Connection: join Wi-Fi and try again. Large updates may not download over some cellular plans.
  • Look further down: Software Update can list an iOS 26 update first, with the iOS 27 upgrade below it.
  • Restart: turn the iPhone off and on, then check again.

If the beta is the part that is missing, our guide to fixing the iOS 27 beta not showing up covers account and enrollment problems.

What to do next

Once you have confirmed your model, back up and install iOS 27.0.1 from Settings. If you would rather try the upcoming release, our iOS 27 beta download guide walks through enrollment and installation step by step.

Frequently asked questions

Which iPhones support iOS 27?

iOS 27 supports 33 iPhones: the iPhone 11 series and every later model, plus the iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). That includes the iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 families, the iPhone 16e, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air, and the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Every iPhone that ran iOS 26 gets iOS 27, so no model was dropped this year.

How do I check if my iPhone supports iOS 27?

Open Settings › General › About and read the Model Name line. If it says iPhone 11 or later, or iPhone SE (2nd or 3rd generation), your phone supports iOS 27. You can also open Settings › General › Software Update: a supported iPhone still on iOS 26 shows iOS 27 as an available upgrade there.

What is the oldest iPhone that supports iOS 27?

The oldest are the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max from 2019, and the iPhone SE (2nd generation) from 2020. All four use the A13 Bionic. Pre-launch reports said Apple would drop them, but Apple kept every iPhone that ran iOS 26. The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR are the newest models that do not get iOS 27.

Does my iPhone support Apple Intelligence on iOS 27?

Only if it has an A17 Pro chip or newer. That means iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, every iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 model including the 16e, 17e and iPhone Air, and the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, the iPhone 14 series and older supported models run iOS 27 without Apple Intelligence.

How do I find my iPhone model number?

Go to Settings › General › About. The Model Number line first shows a part number. Tap it once and it switches to the model number, which starts with the letter A followed by four digits. Apple's support site lists which model each A-number belongs to, which helps if you bought the phone second-hand or it has been repaired.

Can I install iOS 27 on an unsupported iPhone?

No. Apple only signs iOS 27 for supported models, and an iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or older cannot install it, either as a public release or as a beta. Tools that claim to get around this are not legitimate and put your data at risk. An unsupported iPhone keeps working on its last version, which for these models is iOS 18.
