Will iPhone 14 Get iOS 27? Yes, Here's What You Get and What You Miss

All four iPhone 14 models run iOS 27, and iOS 27.0.1 is out now. See what the A15 and A16 miss without Apple Intelligence and how to update or try the beta.

Quick answer

Yes. Every iPhone 14 model runs iOS 27: the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max can all install iOS 27.0.1 (build 24A446) today and can join the iOS 27.2 beta. None of them runs Apple Intelligence, which needs an A17 Pro chip or newer. The rest of iOS 27 works on both the A15 and A16 Bionic.

Which iPhone 14 models get iOS 27?

All four. iOS 27 runs on 33 iPhones, from the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation) up to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple did not drop any iPhone that ran iOS 26, so the iPhone 14 family sits comfortably inside the supported range.

To confirm which model you have, open Settings › General › About and read the Model Name line. The full iOS 27 supported devices list covers every other iPhone and iPad.

Which iOS 27 builds can an iPhone 14 run now?

As of 19 October 2026, an iPhone 14 can run either the public release or the current beta:

  • Public release: iOS 27.0.1 (24A446), released 28 September 2026. It followed iOS 27.0 (24A437) on 14 September.
  • Beta: iOS 27.2 beta 4 (24B5110a), released 13 October 2026.

Each model has its own firmware file. If you prefer a manual restore, the IPSW pages for the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro list every build with its current signing status, and the IPSW library has matching pages for the 14 Plus and 14 Pro Max.

What you get and what you miss

The dividing line is Apple Intelligence. Anything Apple ships under that name needs an A17 Pro or newer; the rest of iOS 27 runs on the iPhone 14.

What runs on iPhone 14

You get the iOS 27 system itself: the updated design and built-in apps, new settings, and every bug fix and security patch Apple releases during the iOS 27 cycle. Apple labels the features that depend on Apple Intelligence on its own iOS 27 pages, so check there before counting on a specific one. Our iOS 27 features list collects what was announced.

What the iPhone 14 cannot run

Apple Intelligence featureWhat it doesiPhone 14
Writing ToolsRewrite, proofread and summarize text in any appNo
Image PlaygroundGenerate images from a descriptionNo
GenmojiCreate custom emojiNo
Clean Up in PhotosRemove unwanted objects from photosNo
Notification and Mail summariesCondense long threads and notification stacksNo

This applies equally to the 14 Pro. Its A16 Bionic introduced the Dynamic Island and always-on display, but it still sits below Apple's line. The same is true of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, which also use the A16; our page on iOS 27 on iPhone 15 explains why that catches so many buyers out.

Why the iPhone 14 misses Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence runs a language model on the phone itself, and Apple set the minimum at the A17 Pro when it introduced the platform. Two hardware limits sit behind that.

  • The Neural Engine. The A17 Pro's Neural Engine was reworked compared with the A15 and A16, and on-device generative models need that headroom to run at a usable speed without draining the battery.
  • Memory. A language model has to stay loaded while the rest of the system keeps running. Apple Intelligence iPhones ship with at least 8GB of RAM; every iPhone 14 has 6GB.

There is no workaround. Changing region, language or settings will not turn it on, and Apple has not offered it on any A15 or A16 iPhone. The Apple Intelligence availability guide lists every qualifying device and the supported regions and languages.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 27

The software is the same across all four models, so the differences come from the hardware you already own.

  • Chip: A16 Bionic in the Pro models, A15 Bionic in the 14 and 14 Plus. The A16 is a little faster, but for everyday apps the gap is hard to notice.
  • Display: 120Hz ProMotion on the Pro models makes scrolling and system animations look smoother than on the 60Hz screens.
  • RAM: 6GB on all four, so background apps behave much the same.

iOS 27 does not add any feature that the Pro gets and the standard model does not. If you own an iPhone 14, you are not missing anything a 14 Pro owner has on iOS 27.

How to update an iPhone 14 to iOS 27

The public release installs over the air.

  1. Back up the iPhone to iCloud or to a computer.
  2. Connect to Wi-Fi and plug the phone into power.
  3. Open Settings › General › Software Update.
  4. Tap Update Now for iOS 27.0.1 and enter your passcode.
  5. Keep the phone on the charger until it restarts on the new version.

If the update reports that there is not enough space, Settings › General › iPhone Storage shows which apps and media to clear first.

How to try the iOS 27 beta on iPhone 14

The beta is free with any Apple Account. You do not need a paid developer membership or a configuration profile.

  1. Make a backup on a Mac or PC and archive it so later backups do not overwrite it.
  2. For the public beta, enroll at beta.apple.com. For the developer beta, sign in once in the free Apple Developer app.
  3. Open Settings › General › Software Update › Beta Updates.
  4. Choose iOS 27 Public Beta or iOS 27 Developer Beta.
  5. Go back one screen and install iOS 27.2 beta 4.

To leave later, either turn off Beta Updates and wait for a public release with a higher version number, or restore iOS 26.6.1 RC (23G82), which Apple is signing for iPhones now, and then your pre-beta backup. A backup made on the beta cannot be restored onto an older version. Our iOS 27 beta download guide covers enrollment and the first install in more detail.

How long will the iPhone 14 be supported?

Apple does not publish support end dates. What the record shows is long support: the iPhone 11, released in 2019, still runs iOS 27 in 2026. The iPhone 14 launched in September 2022, so it has a comfortable margin over the current oldest supported models. The bigger long-term issue is not losing updates but the growing list of features that require Apple Intelligence.

Should you upgrade or keep your iPhone 14?

Keep it if you do not need Apple Intelligence and the phone still gets through the day. You get iOS 27 and its security updates for free.

Consider upgrading if you want Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji or the other Apple Intelligence features. That means an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, not an iPhone 15 or 15 Plus.

Check the battery first if the phone feels tired. A battery below 80 percent of its original capacity can cause short battery life and slowdowns that no update fixes. Our guide on how to check battery health explains how to read the number and when a replacement makes more sense than a new phone.

What to do next

If you have decided to stay on your iPhone 14, back it up and install iOS 27.0.1 from Software Update. If you want to see what is coming in the next point release first, follow the iOS 27 beta installation guide to put iOS 27.2 beta 4 on your iPhone 14.

Frequently asked questions

Does the iPhone 14 get iOS 27?

Yes. The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max all run iOS 27. Apple released iOS 27.0 on 14 September 2026 and iOS 27.0.1 (build 24A446) on 28 September 2026, and both install on every iPhone 14 model through Settings › General › Software Update. The update is free. The part of iOS 27 the iPhone 14 cannot run is Apple Intelligence.

Does the iPhone 14 Pro support Apple Intelligence?

No. Apple Intelligence on iPhone needs an A17 Pro chip or newer. The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max use the A16 Bionic, and the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus use the A15 Bionic, so none of the four qualify. Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji, Clean Up in Photos and notification summaries do not appear on any iPhone 14, and no setting changes that.

Is there a difference between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 27?

Not in features. Both run the same iOS 27 and neither gets Apple Intelligence. The differences are hardware: the Pro models use the A16 Bionic and a 120Hz ProMotion display, while the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus use the A15 Bionic and a 60Hz display. All four have 6GB of RAM. In daily use, the Pro's smoother screen is the change you notice most.

Can I install the iOS 27 beta on iPhone 14?

Yes. Every iPhone 14 can run the iOS 27.2 beta, which is free with any Apple Account. Go to Settings › General › Software Update › Beta Updates, choose iOS 27 Public Beta or iOS 27 Developer Beta, then go back and install. The latest build is iOS 27.2 beta 4 (24B5110a). Archive a computer backup first, because a beta backup cannot be restored onto an older iOS version.

How many more years of updates will the iPhone 14 get?

Apple does not publish end-of-support dates, so any exact year is a guess. The track record is long: the iPhone 11 from 2019 still runs iOS 27 in 2026, and no iPhone that ran iOS 26 was dropped this year. The iPhone 14 launched in September 2022, three years after the iPhone 11, so it is a long way from the current cut-off.

Should I upgrade from iPhone 14 to get Apple Intelligence?

Only if you want those features. Apple Intelligence needs an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or any iPhone 16, 17 or 18 model, including iPhone 16e, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus do not qualify. If you do not use AI features and your battery still lasts the day, the iPhone 14 remains well supported on iOS 27.
