About this page
This article was first published on 4 June 2026, four days before the keynote, as a preview of what Apple was expected to announce. We have kept that record of pre-WWDC reporting below, clearly marked, and added what actually followed. Pre-keynote reports were rumours, not announcements. For the features Apple confirmed, see the iOS 27 features list.

| iOS 27 | 27.0.1 (24A446) | 27.2 beta 4 (24B5110a) |

Which devices got the new software
Device support is where the pre-WWDC predictions were furthest off.
- iPhone: before the keynote, reports expected iOS 27 to start at the iPhone 12. In fact iOS 27 runs on 33 iPhones, from the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation) up to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Every iPhone that ran iOS 26 got iOS 27. See the full iOS 27 supported devices list.
- Apple Intelligence: still needs an A17 Pro chip or newer, so it starts with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus do not get it.
- iPad: iPadOS 27 runs on 23 iPads. Five iPads that ran iPadOS 26 stop there: iPad (8th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) and iPad mini (5th generation). The iPadOS 27 supported iPads list has every model.
- Mac: the pre-WWDC expectation of an Apple silicon-only release was correct. The macOS 27 restore image covers Apple silicon Macs from the M1 generation onwards, plus MacBook Neo, and no Intel Macs. Check the macOS 27 supported Macs list.
What was expected before WWDC 2026
The rest of this page is the record of what was reported before the keynote, mostly from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. None of it was confirmed by Apple at the time, and inclusion here does not mean a feature shipped.
Reported: a redesigned, chatbot-style Siri
The biggest expectation was a rebuilt Siri. Reports described a standalone Siri app with conversation history, on-screen awareness, an Extensions system for apps and services, and a "Search or Ask" bar tied to the Dynamic Island. Several reports said Apple would run a custom model built with Google's Gemini team on its Private Cloud Compute servers. A separate report said users would be able to pick a third-party AI service, such as ChatGPT or Gemini, as the default for some Apple Intelligence features.
This came after Siri features promised in 2024 slipped more than once. Our breakdown of the Siri delays covers how Apple spread its plans across iOS 26.4, iOS 26.5 and iOS 27.
Reported: a "Snow Leopard" stability focus
Gurman described the 27-series as a "Snow Leopard-style" year, named after the 2009 Mac release that focused on speed and fixes over new features. Engineers were said to be cutting bloat and fixing long-standing bugs across all the operating systems.
Reported: groundwork for a foldable iPhone
Reports said iOS 27 would include layouts and side-by-side multitasking for Apple's first foldable iPhone. As of 19 October 2026, the 33 iPhones in Apple's iOS 27 device list include the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max but no foldable model. Our iPhone Fold page tracks what is known about that device.
Reported: other iOS 27 features
- Bill splitting in Apple Wallet, using a photo of a receipt to create Apple Cash requests.
- Custom Wallet passes created by scanning a ticket, pass or membership card.
- A revamp of the editing tools in Photos built on Apple Intelligence.
- Readability refinements to the Liquid Glass design introduced in iOS 26.
- Intelligence-driven updates to Calendar and Health.
- Better quality from Genmoji and Image Playground.
Reported: the other platforms
iPadOS 27 was expected to build on the windowing work in iPadOS 26. macOS 27 was expected to drop Intel Macs, which it did. For watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27, pre-WWDC coverage expected stability work, health features, smart-home ties and refinements to spatial computing, without firm detail.
Reported: possible hardware
WWDC is a software event, and hardware was never confirmed. Reports mentioned possible M5 updates to the Mac Studio and Mac mini and a Siri-powered home device, with most expecting new hardware to wait for later in the year.

Frequently asked questions
When was WWDC 2026?
WWDC 2026 ran from 8 to 12 June 2026. The keynote took place on Monday 8 June at 10:00 AM Pacific Time, and Apple introduced iOS 27 there. What did Apple release after WWDC 2026?
The 27-series updates for every platform: iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27. iOS 27.0 shipped to the public on 14 September 2026 (build 24A437), followed by iOS 27.0.1 on 28 September. Which iPhones got iOS 27?
iOS 27 runs on 33 iPhones: iPhone 11 and later, plus iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation), which is every iPhone that ran iOS 26. Pre-WWDC reports that the iPhone 11 would be dropped turned out to be wrong. Apple Intelligence features need an A17 Pro chip or newer, so they start with the iPhone 15 Pro.
Did the new Siri ship with iOS 27?
This page records what was reported before the keynote, including a chatbot-style Siri, and those reports were not confirmations. For what Apple actually shipped, use our iOS 27 features list and Apple's own iOS 27 pages. Our breakdown of the Siri delays explains how Apple split its Siri and Apple Intelligence plans across iOS 26.4, iOS 26.5 and iOS 27.
Is macOS 27 Apple silicon only?
Yes. The macOS 27 restore image covers Apple silicon Macs only: every MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac and Mac Studio from the M1 generation onwards, plus Mac Pro (2023) and MacBook Neo. Intel Macs are not on the list. The current macOS public release is macOS 27.0.1 (26A434), and the beta is macOS 27.2 beta 4 (26B5112a).
Can I still install the iOS 27 beta?
Yes. The beta is free with any Apple Account. Enroll at beta.apple.com for the public beta, or sign in once in the Apple Developer app for the developer beta, then go to Settings › General › Software Update › Beta Updates. The current build is iOS 27.2 beta 4 (24B5110a). Archive a computer backup before you install.
